Featherdown Farms isn't a single farm it's a number of farms throughout the UK. They are all working farms but with a difference - they all offer the Featherdown Farm camping holiday experience. They have capitalised on their wonderful rural locations to re-invent camping into an eco luxury experience and boy has it been successful.
You don't need to take your tent to Featherdown. The photo above shows the type of accomodation on offer ...everything including the kitchen sink is provided. Where else can you camp in such style and also have a...
* • Farm Larder
* • Chicken Coop
* • Wood-Fired Oven
* • Paddock
...all at your disposal.
Not forgetting the carbon neutral Field Spa with it's wooden warm water tub heated by a wood burning stove with outdoor hot and cold showers and sauna - it's a unique experience.
Then there's the Slow Food bit - you can smoke your own chicken or fish by hiring a smoke barrel and all the instructions. Or the farm will provide you with everything you need to cook a stew for your family or group over the outdoor woodfire.
This really is the way cooler camping should be.
If you fancy camping amongst the sand dunes on one of the most wonderful
beaches in Snowdonia check out the 300 acre campsite at Shell Island.
Before you ask, yes it is a real Island (at certain types of the day when the tide cuts it off anyway).
You can bring your own tent, yurt, campervan or tipi. There are 3 swimming
beaches, places to sail or canoe and at low tide the mud flats of the estuary can be explored.
There are facilities and a shop selling basics - the only drawback is they won't allow fires on the ground - they have to be raised off the ground in a firebin or a B-B-Q. Also it gets pretty crowded in high season.
Their website has masses of information about the site and the surrounding wonder of the world that is Snowdonia (I used to live in Harlech - just up the coast - so this used to be home! Sigh!) They even have a webcam so you can check out the site for yourself.
